BOTOX

1. What does a Botox treatment do?
Treatment with Botox is a nonsurgical procedure that can smooth the “frown” lines between the brows, “crow’s feet” on the sides of the eyes and wrinkles on the forehead. It does this by relaxing the muscles that cause these lines to form, and keeps them relaxed for up to four months.
2. What can I expect from a Botox treatment?
The Botox is administered with several tiny injections. Discomfort is minimal and brief and the area can be pretreated with an ice pack or a numbing cream. It is possible to experience some bruising at the injection site which can be covered with makeup. You will be instructed to keep your head elevated for three hours after the procedure and not to manipulate the areas.
The effect of Botox usually begins to be noticeable in a few days with improvement continuing up to two weeks. Botox typically lasts up to four months.
3. What exactly is Botox?
Botox is a natural, purified protein produced by the Clostridium Botulinum Bacterium. Very low doses of Botox are administered with a few tiny injections directly into the overactive muscles that cause the lines to form. Botox blocks the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles.
4. What are the possible side effects?
As with any medical treatment, Botox may cause side effects, which can include headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop and nausea.
5. What does it mean that Dr. Grodberg is a Botox Network Physician?
Dr. Grodberg is one of a select group of physicians who have been chosen to be part of the Botox Network. This is a small group of experienced dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons who have been using Botox since it became popular several years ago. These are the doctors recommended by Allergan, the producers of Botox, for its administration.
The dermatologists at Contemporary & Cosmetic Dermatology, PC are available to go over these and any other questions you may have regarding Botox.
